A different look at Lent
While i don't post things of a religious nature, i do on occasion post thing of a spiritual nature. even though this is the context of Lent, i was moved by how potent these actions are in all of our everyday lives. read them with a open mind.
Lenten observance, (ascesis-discipline)
confronts our over-identifications:
fasting confronts the nutritional drive –
food and sex (temporary abstinence);
alms confront our possessive attitude
toward goods and money;
prayer confronts our possessive attitude
toward our spiritual nature;
works of mercy confront our possessive attitude
[toward our needs]
by reaching out to the needs of others.
